Linda Sullivan

Linda Sullivan went home to greet the Lord after a valiant fight against cancer on August 21, 2011. She was surrounded by the love of her family as she left them to return to the love of her maker.
Norman and Geraldine Rossdeutscher gave birth to Linda Carol on March 31, 1943. She was joined by a sister, Leslie Ann, 3 yrs later. Linda grew to be an adventurous woman. After receiving her Nursing Diploma from Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY, she landed in Hawaii and fell madly in love with Gerald Wayne Sullivan. They were married in Hawaii, March 6, 1968, and returned to the mainland. They raised their family in McLouth, KS. Linda continued as a nurse in so many facets. She cared for all ages of patients from pediatrics to geriatrics receiving both her BSN (’87) and MSN (’97) from the University of Kansas.
Her nursing career took on many forms. She was an Associate Professor at Kansas City Community College from 1992 until her retirement in 2005. She taught CNA classes, RN classes, wrote nursing board questions and even edited textbooks in geriatrics. She was director of nursing for a long-term care facility for many years. After her retirement she continued to work as an adjunct instructor at the University Saint Mary and Butler County Community College. She taught online classes, did home site visits and continued editing and writing nursing board questions.
The only thing that could top her love for nursing was the love of her family.
Linda and Gerry spent 43 yrs of committed love to one another. Linda enjoyed spending time with her sons, daughter-in-laws, and mother-in-law and was dear to all of them. The jewel of her crown were her grandchildren. Whether she was playing cards, traveling, or attending a sporting or school event, not one of her grandchildren will ever doubt her love for them.
Linda is survived by her everloving husband Gerry, sons Patrick (Dawn) Sullivan of State College, PA, Jason (Becky) Sullivan of Eudora, KS and Rex (Carman) Scism of Columbia, MO. Her grandchildren include Emma, Lily and Gwen Sullivan of PA, Madison and Logan Sullivan of KS and Trenton, Trey, and Tiffany Scism of MO.
The memorial service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, 402 Liberty. The family will receive condolences at 10:30.
