Richard Roderick Pine

Memorial graveside services for Richard Roderick Pine, 91, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Pine died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
He was born May 17, 1920, in Lawrence, the son of Wilbur Columbus and Katherine Margaret Purel Pine. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1938.
Mr. Pine earned a certificate in electrical engineering from Kansas University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as chief radioman on board the USS Spica. After the war, he opened Pine’s Radio and TV Service in Eudora before moving the business to Lawrence, where he operated for more than 34 years. Before retirement, Mr. Pine worked several years in the research and development department of Reuter Organ Company. He enjoyed Lawrence High School and KU sports, gardening and coffee with friends. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Cosmos International.
He married Georgia Nell Phillips in 1947. She died in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Richard R. Jr. and wife Cynthia, Pinckney, Mich., Randall C., Lawrence, and Russell M. and wife Marcia, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Nathan Pine, Amanda Pine, Matthew Pine, Breanna Kelly, Mason Pine, Russell Pine Jr. and Jeffrey Allen Pine; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Tyler Pine and Hoyt Mason Kelly.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip and William.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
