Mary Katherine Sanford 1915 - 2011 Lecompton
Graveside services for Mary Katherine Sanford, 96, Lecompton, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton.
She died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011.
She was born June 10, 1915, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Sarah Williams Morris and Howard W. Sanford.
She attended Glenn Grade School and Lecompton Rural High School, graduating in 1934. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, in 1948. She taught eight years in rural Douglas County at the Pleasant Grove, Lecompton, Winter and Sigel grade schools. She taught for 35 years in Pratt elementary schools.
She had honorary memberships in Parents and Teachers Association and Kansas State Teachers Association. She was a long-term member of Beta Psi Delta Kappa Gamma in Pratt. She was a member of Lecompton Historical Society and Lecompton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Howard Earl Sanford and wife Frances, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond M. Sanford, and three sisters, Dorothy Daniels, Phyllis Daniels and Marjorie Daniels.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Lecompton United Methodist Church or Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care.
Chapel Oaks Cremation & Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
