Marguerite L. Johnson

Graveside services for Marguerite L. Johnson, 90, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
She died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Holiday Resort Nursing Facility in Emporia.
She was born June 30, 1920, in Lawrence, the daughter of William H. and Florence Flory Elston.
Mrs. Johnson was the former head cook at Woodlawn School in Lawrence from 1964 until her retirement due to health concerns. She was the former president of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and served as chairwoman of various services and volunteered in others. She also managed the baby/child car seat program through the LMH Auxiliary.
She worked in door-to-door school censuses in North Lawrence, worked on election boards, held office and was active in the North Lawrence Improvement Association. She also served on the Community Development Board as a representative for North Lawrence. She was a life member of PTA, was a member of the Low Vision Support Group in Lawrence and attended the Low Vision Support Group when it began in Emporia in 2006. She was a member of the Republican Women and was active in local Lawrence politics, supporting many local and state Republican candidates. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Emporia.
She married Fredrick E. Johnson on March 27, 1937, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death Aug. 31, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Frederick A. Johnson, on Nov. 9, 2010.
Survivors include three daughters, Marie Harding, Emporia, Sally Barnett, Lawrence, and Denise Hahnstadt, Missoula, Mont.; three grandchildren, David Harding, Michelle Harding and Grayson Hahnstadt; and two great-grandchildren, Allison Harding and Adam Harding.
