Thomas Jenison Hatton

A Celebration of Life service for Thomas Jenison Hatton, 75, De Soto, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 S. Ridgeview, Olathe. Inurnment will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Mr. Hatton died Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
He was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Fort Dodge, the son of Douglas and Virgie Jenison Hatton.
Mr. Hatton served in the Air National Guard. He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in English from the University of Nebraska. He was a professor of English literature at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for 31 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to De Soto to be closer to their children. Mr. Hatton enjoyed the companionship of his family and cats, playing tennis and performing with several local bands.
He married Lois Jean Dunn on June 5, 1960, in West Bend, Iowa. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a brother, James, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Douglas Joseph, Lawrence; two daughters, Heather Grace Hunley and husband Mark, Littleton, Colo., and Ginger Marie Hatton, Dillon, Colo.; and three grandchildren Jason, Elena and Renee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to the Karl L. King Municipal Band in Fort Dodge, Iowa or to the American Cancer Society.
