Lila P. McMillen 1916 - 2011 Baldwin City
Funeral services for Lila P. McMillen, 94, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Willow Springs Old German Baptist Brethren Meeting House. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Douglas County.
Mrs. McMillen died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Vintage Park Assisted Living Center in Baldwin City.
She was born Nov. 5, 1916, the daughter of Robert L. and Eva Martha Flory Markley.
Mrs. McMillen enjoyed her flower gardens, and flower clubs often included her yard in their spring flower tours. For many years, she had a booth at the Lawrence Farmers’ Market, selling African violets and other flowers.
She married Dale E. McMillen on Aug. 3, 1938, in Pleasant Grove. He preceded her in death March 15, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eva Markley; a brother, Merle Markley; and a sister, Yvonne Markley.
Survivors include a son, Danny D. McMillen and wife Becky, Baldwin City; two sisters, Vivian Johnson and Flora Ott, both of Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Letha Meyers, Baldwin City; grandsons Todd McMillen and Steve McMillen; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
