Mildred Josephine Lyons 1905 - 2010
Lyons, Mildred Josephine, passed away September 11, 2010 at the age of 105 at Comfort Care Homes.
Mildred was born to John Charles and Ida Saunders on August 21, 1905 at their home in Lawrence, KS.
On August 31, 1940, Mildred married James Franklin Lyons. They moved from Lawrence to Wichita in 1942 when he took a job with Boeing. They were married for 44 years until his death on August 15, 1984.
She and Jim had one son, Robert Paul Lyons, who was born August 10, 1943 and died in Vietnam on April 6, 1969.
Mildred was an avid gardener and an accomplished painter. She was a member of the DAR and the Eastern Star. Mildred was also predeceased by her 5 brothers: James Henry, William John, Phillipp Marion, Harold Keith and Miles Walters “Jack”.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Katharine Clark of Wichita, KS, her granddaughter Marica (Bill) Jacobson, and two great-grandchildren, Katharine and John of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to DAR, Betty Washington Chapter – Lawrence KS, or Botanica, The Wichita Gardens.
Service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel.
