Patricia H. Smith

She died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 6, 1934, in Lawrence, the daughter of John James and Hazel Blanche Harrison Riling. She was a 1952 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence.
She attended Kansas University for three years.
Mrs. Smith worked in the entomology department at KU. She also worked for McDonald Beverages and later worked part time at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed 17 years as a winter Texan where she put on shows, skits and musicals for a resort. She played the piano for church and plays. She also enjoyed Canadian fishing trips, music, crafts, golf and dancing.
She belonged to the Sweet Adelines chorus and the American Business Women’s Association. She was a member and past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary Branch No. 177. She also volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Smith married Lester D. Smith on Dec. 29, 1957, in Olathe. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Steve Gillum, Lawrence, and Jim Smith and wife Debby, Lawrence; a daughter, Deanna Dibble and husband John, Lawrence; five grandchildren, Patricia Morris, Marcie Wainright, Megan Smith, Dustin Gillum and Aron Gillum; and two great-grandchildren, Bronson Cunningham and Violet Bublitz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John J. Riling and Eugene C. Riling; a son, Scott D. Gillum; and a granddaughter, Madison J. Smith.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
