Leonard Flory

Leonard Flory, age 95, passed away peacefully, September 29, 2010, at Heart-to-Heart Home Care in Pomona, KS. Born to Amos Flory and Ida Filbrun Flory on February 6, 1915, Leonard grew up in Rural Douglas County. He attended Union School and graduated in 1928.
Leonard married Zolla Wray on April 9, 1939. They were baptized into the church of their choice on September 10, 1940. Their union was blessed with the birth of a son, Kelvin on June 27, 1947. Six years later they adopted a two-year-old daughter, Aleeta Darlene, whom they raised and loved as their own.
Leonard was a farmer and stockman all his adult life, also working part-time as a carpenter, painter, roofer, cabinetmaker, and cement finisher to supplement the farm income in lean times. He loved and constantly improved the land he farmed, and loved his livestock and pets, giving personal attention to each field and each animal. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking as hobbies. He had many friends in the community and was well thought of by all those who knew him.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and his wife Zolla. He is survived by; a son, Kelvin, Ottawa, KS; a daughter, Aleeta Metzger and her husband Dale, North Manchester, IN; four grandchildren, Aaron and Chad Metzger, North Manchester, IN, Megan Flory, Emporia, KS, and Kimberley Beasley, Virginia Beach, VA.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 6, at 10 AM at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Centropolis, KS, with burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery . The family will accept friends Tuesday, October 5 from 6-8 PM at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.
