John Eugene Barnes

Graveside service for John Eugene Barnes, 66, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Cemetery in Lyndon.
Mr. Barnes died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1944, in Rolla, Mo., the son of John Franklin and Erma Mae Elms Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was a general laborer. He was also a handyman and was a member of the Local Union No. 1290.
He married Elizabeth Burton on Nov. 26, 1964, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Lori Szawicki, Lawrence, Kathryn Barnes, Pomona; one son, Roy Douglas Barnes and wife Cathy, Lawrence; four sisters, Patricia Bailey, Topeka, Virgie Farmer, Eudora, Linda Buckins, Georgia, and Kay Opper, Lawrence; one brother, Lee Roy Barnes, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Aaron, Bradie and Peyton; and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary V. Barnes; four brothers, Walter, Jimmy, Roger and Eveart; and three granddaughters, Shelby, Lisa and Patsy Barnes.
The family will meet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the John Barnes Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
