J.B. Hill 1927 - 2010 Lenexa
Memorial services for J.B. Hill, 82, Shawnee, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at The Sweet Life at Shawnee.
Mr. Hill was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Ninnekah, Okla., the son of Bryant and Jessie Pooler Hill.
After high school he enlisted in the Navy, serving in World War II. While in the U.S. Naval Reserves, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1951 and later served in the Korean conflict.
Mr. Hill was vice president of Pyramid Life Insurance Company for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He then worked for Ball’s Foods, handling insurance claims for 13 years. He was a past president of the Greater Claims Association of Kansas City. Mr. Hill also served on the board for the Johnson County Girls Athletic Association and the Johnson County 3&2 Baseball Club, where he was the founder of the team sportsmanship award.
He was a former member of Valley View United Methodist Church, where he served as the chairman of the board for the preschool. During his retirement, he enjoyed painting and volunteering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eula Hill, Shawnee; two sons, Steve and wife Michelle, Overland Park, and Brent and wife Linda, Lawrence; a daughter, Lori Austin and husband Meck, Kansas City, Kan.; two grandchildren, Travis and Nicole Hill; a great-grandchild, Kaylin; two sisters, Dorothy Romines, Sanger, Texas, and Marleta Stephens, Chickasha, Okla.; and a brother, Troy, DeBary, Fla.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home, 8535 Monrovia St. The family suggests memorials to Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland, 8900 State Line Road, Suite 320, Leawood, KS 66206.
