Wes Santee 1932 - 2010 Eureka
Wes Santee, a Kansas University track legend and Olympian, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at his home in Eureka. He had been suffering from cancer.
Mr. Santee was born March 25, 1932, in Ashland and grew up there before leaving for Lawrence to attend school and run track for Kansas.
He was a retired colonel in the Marines
He is survived by a sister, Ina May Walsh; two sons, Edward and Robert; daughter Susie; and seven grandchildren, Christopher, Chase, Weston, Trent, Hollis, Alex and Isabelle.
At one point, Santee ran three of the four fastest mile times in history. He was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2005.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., Lawrence.
