Gordon Neil Carlisle 1920 - 2010 Lawrence
Funeral services for Gordon Neil Carlisle, 89, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, with the Revs. Mike Howard and Kyle Evans officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Mr. Carlisle died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
He was born June 11, 1920, in Hoisington, the son of Ralph and Caldonia Bussin Carlisle.
Mr. Carlisle was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. Carlisle was a retired postmaster and rural letter carrier. He had been a resident of Leoti from 1927 until moving to Lawrence in 2008.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 6752, and was a charter member of the Wichita County Municipal Golf Course, all of Leoti. Mr. Carlisle also held memberships in the National Association of Rural Letter Carriers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He married Marie Chambers on Sept. 20, 1947, in Wichita. She died April 13, 1995.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy.
Survivors include, a son, Michael and wife Gerri, Lawrence; two grandsons, Darin and Bryce Carlisle; a great-grandson, Rowan Carlisle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggest memorials to the United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti.
