Harry Lee Morton

A memorial service for Harry Lee Morton, 64, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Ottawa.
Mr. Morton died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, after a battle with cancer.
He was born June 7, 1945, in Ottawa, the son of Forrest Everett and Dorothy Helen Aldridge Morton. He graduated from Ottawa High School and attended Parsons Junior College, where he was a center on the basketball team.
He also played city league basketball for Waymire’s Town Team against such competitors as the Kansas City Chiefs team and the Harlem Stars.
Mr. Morton served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After his military service, he worked as a carpenter and was an active union member.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with his family and a good piece of homemade pie with ice cream. He also enjoyed spending time with children and animals.
He married June Allene Lobb on May 25, 1966. She survives, of Lawrence.
Other survivors include two daughters, Cindy Nau and Angie Nordhus, both of Lawrence; two brothers; three sisters; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials for the grandchildren’s educational fund, sent in care of the church, 2264 S. Highway 59, Ottawa, KS 66067.
