Shirley L. Wilcox

Funeral services for Shirley L. Wilcox, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilcox died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Thomas Daily and Norma Ressler Farber. She grew up in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1937 and from Kansas City Missouri Junior College in 1939.
Mrs. Wilcox was a member of the First Baptist Church, P.E.O. Chapter AZ, Tennola Study Club, Friends of Music, Good Cheer, Lawrence Civic Choir, Lawrence Music Club and a bridge club. She was past president of the PTA at Central Junior High School and was a Cub Scout pack leader and assisted with Brownies and Girl Scouts.
She married Howard L. Wilcox, M.D., on June 8, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jack D. Farber, and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include two sons, Howard L. Wilcox Jr., M.D., and wife Cathy, Olathe, and Thomas B. Wilcox, Lawrence; a daughter, Patricia Transue, Lawrence; five grandchildren, Brennan Wilcox, Kirsten Frazey, Renee Stanley, Jenny Harter and Emily Blevins; and five great-grandchildren, Justis Frazey, Britin Frazey, Alex Wilcox, Aidan Wilcox and Aaron Blevins.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
