Jack Howard Galbraith 1931 - 2010 Perry
Services for Jack Howard Galbraith, 78, Perry, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Perry United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Mr. Galbraith died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, from complications due to pneumonia and congestive heart failure at a hospital in Beverly Hills, Calif.
He was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Henderson, Ky., the son of Paul and Nedra Galbraith. He graduated from Perry High School in 1949.
Mr. Galbraith earned a landscape design degree from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in city and regional planning. He was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Galbraith’s first planning job was in Knoxville, Tenn., for two years prior to moving to Wichita in 1963 where he was a city planner for the next 28 years until his retirement in 1990. In 1992, he returned to Perry, where he later served as chairman of the board at the Bank of Perry from 2001 to 2002.
Mr. Galbraith was a charter member at the University Congregational Church in Wichita, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Perry.
He married Jo A. Galbraith on June 14, 1959, in Perry. She preceded him in death Jan. 25, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan L. Galbraith, Sapulpa, Okla.; a son, Dan H., Lenexa; a granddaughter, Sage Galbraith; and a grandson, Dane Galbraith.
The family suggests memorials to the Perry United Methodist Women, sent in care of Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.
