Mildred Jane Kratt
Funeral services for Mildred Jane Kratt, 88, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Matthew Zimmerman officiating. A reception will follow the service, and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will follow the reception.
Mrs. Kratt died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
She was born May 24, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Arthur Edward and Elizabeth Clara Buss Snellbacher. She grew up in McCandless, Pa., and graduated from high school there.
Mrs. Kratt was a homemaker, and worked for the H.J. Heinz Company during World War II, and as a secretary and bookkeeper in the 1950s and 1960s.
She was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, and was active in the Lawrence Green Thumb Garden Club, the Lawrence Designer’s Guild, and the Lawrence Chat & Stitch – I. She was a lifetime gardener, and earned hundreds of blue ribbons for flower arrangements and plants at various club events. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
She married George Edward Kratt Jr. on Nov. 8, 1939, in Winchester, Va. They moved to Lawrence in 1988 following his retirement. He preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Paul George Kratt, Lewes, Del.; a daughter, Kathleen L. Neeley, Lawrence; a sister, Ruth E. Hufstetler, Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren, Laura E. Nelson and Alan D. Neeley.
The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
