Harrison K. Traul, Jr.

Graveside services for Harrison K. Traul Jr., 89, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Linn County.
Mr. Traul died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at his home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Parker, the son of Harrison Knisely and Mary Margaret Thomas Traul.
He retired from the City of Lawrence Utility Department in 1989.
Mr. Traul was a past member of I.O.O.F., member and Past Master of Acacia Lodge No. 9 AF&AM, member and Past Venerable Master of Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence, member and Past Commander of Knights Templar-York Rite Bodies of Lawrence, member and Past Worthy Patron of Adah Chapter No. 7 Order of the Eastern Star, and Past Watchman of the Shepherds-Fidelity White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 11.
He was also involved with Troop No. 53 of the Boy Scouts of America, Pelathe District, where he had received the Honorary Warrior Award in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, held the Vigil honor in the Order of the Arrow and received the Silver Beaver Award for his volunteer work.
He married Roberta Strong on Aug. 19, 1966, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mary L. Traul and husband Allen Fennewald, Baldwin City; two sons, James and wife Wendy, and Eric K., all of Lawrence; six grandchildren, William Harrison and Christian Wolfe Elniff, Jennifer Jackson, Janine and Jim Jones, and Pvt. Jeremy Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda L., on April 10, 2004; and four brothers.
The family will greet friends at the mortuary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, when there will be a Masonic burial service by Acacia Lodge No. 9 AF&AM.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or an organization of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St, Lawrence KS 66044.
