Charles Henry Shawbaker

Eudora — A memorial Mass for Charles Henry Shawbaker, 75, Eudora, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Inurnment will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Shawbaker died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born July 10, 1934, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Louis and Mary Hirst Shawbaker.
Mr. Shawbaker graduated from Eudora High School. He attended Kansas University and later attended Rockhurst College, graduating with cum laude honors. He worked as an accountant for 18 years at Continental Grain in Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also served 20 years with the Coast Guard.
He owned and operated Pat’s Pig BBQ in Baldwin City and more than 2 years later opened another Pat’s Pig BBQ in Topeka. It is still in operation 22 years later by his stepdaughter, Tamara. He also continued his accounting business through 2009.
Mr. Shawbaker married Patricia Ann “Pat” Mahon on Sept. 25, 1974, in Johnson County. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Charles Steven Shawbaker, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two daughters, Catherine Dunn, Kansas City, Mo., and Tamara Starkey, Baldwin City; two brothers, Edward, Eudora, and Louis, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Jeff, Danny, Tommy and Nicole; a great-grandson, Merick; three stepgrandchildren, Christie, Jennifer and Mickayla; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Mckenzie.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Shawbaker.
The family will greet friends one hour before the service at Holy Family Catholic Church.
The family suggests memorials to Mickayla Starkey College Educational Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence.
