Leonard Edwin Dodson Sr.

A memorial service for Leonard Edwin Dodson Sr., 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St.
Mr. Dodson died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at his home.
He was born March 1, 1919, in McCloud, Okla., the son of Lillian Couch and Thomas E. Dodson.
Mr. Dodson graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Engineering in 1942. After serving in World War II, he returned to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a master’s degree in educational guidance. Mr. Dodson then earned a Ph.D. in counseling from the University of Illinois. He worked for the Veterans Administration as a guidance counselor at Tulsa University, and as a psychologist in Oklahoma City and Topeka.
He and his wife were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church in Topeka until moving to Lawrence in 2004.
He married Martha C. Downing on July 18, 1943. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Survivors include two brothers, James, Enid, Okla., and Jerry, Pryor, Okla.; a son, Dr. Leonard E. Jr. and wife Jackie, Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Charlotte E. Knoche and husband Harry, Lawrence; six grandchildren, Katie Gilman, Marnie Dodson, David Dodson, Emily Dodson, Lillian Mason and Natalie Mason; and eight great-grandchildren, Jordan and Hayden Gilman, Samuel, Maxwell, Tabitha and Eligha Dodson, and Arlo and Oscar Paden.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
