Robert Wolfe Jaeger

Memorial services for Robert W. “Bob” Jaeger, 84, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Kent Winters-Hazelton officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Pioneer Cemetery on the Kansas University campus.
Mr. Jaeger died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Mound Valley, the son of Leon G. and Lela Mary Wolfe Jaeger.
Mr. Jaeger’s family moved to Hillsboro when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1943.
Mr. Jaeger worked briefly for the newspaper in Hillsboro before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he completed communications training and was assigned to a ship where he sent and received Morse code messages. He was discharged in 1946, and enrolled at Kansas University.
Mr. Jaeger was the assistant director of the KU Printing Service, and retired in 1987 after 40 years of service. He also ran the scoreboard at KU basketball games, and typed the play-by-play for coaches at KU football games.
Mr. Jaeger was a longtime member of the Elks Club, the Eagles Lodge and Travelers Protective Association, and a life member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, Lawrence. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and the KU Alumni Association. Mr. Jaeger was a member of Lawrence Barber Shop Quartet, and served as an assistant Boy Scout troop leader. He volunteered for the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen.
He married Joan J. Elliott. They later divorced.
He married Nancy Shawbaker on Aug. 30, 1986, in Welda. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Paul Jaeger and wife Linda Caldwell, Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Julie Ramirez and husband Andy, Lawrence, and Janet Jaeger, Oskaloosa; a brother, Gordon L., Hillsboro; a stepdaughter, Deanna L. Shawbaker, Eudora; a stepson, Larry Shawbaker, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Rachael Ramirez; five step-grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
