Jeane Ripstra Krebs Landry

Landry, Jeane Ripstra Krebs, of Brandon Woods, Lawrence, KS passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. She was born January 31, 1926 in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Joseph G. and Hazel Aleta Dugan Ripstra. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1944 and attended Wichita University for two years. She married John Dayton Krebs on October 26, 1946. They later divorced. She married Roger Lucien Landry on April 24, 1965. He passed away in November, 1981.
She was a volunteer in many community organizations in Wichita, serving as president of the Board of Directors of the Music Theatre of Wichita Guild, the Assistance League of Wichita, the Revitalized Bridge Center of Wichita, and Cedar Lakes Village Condominiums. After moving to Lawrence in 2005, she was very active in Brandon Woods affairs, including chairing the Residents’ Council.
She was a skilled bridge player. For many years, she played in duplicate tournaments around the country, earning the coveted Life Master status in 1961. She served over the years on local, district and national committees for the betterment of the bridge world. She always enjoyed sports. For many years, she participated in golf and bowling leagues. She also followed team sports, particularly Wichita State University athletics, a passion she shared with her father, an avid baseball fan. Once in Lawrence, she followed KU basketball closely, and for the last three years, she won the family NCAA pool.
Survivors include her two sons, Jack Krebs and his wife, Jill, Lawrence, KS, and Tom Krebs, Topeka, KS. Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Holly Krebs, her husband Brett Stoppel and their daughter Evy Krebs, Lawrence, KS; Lydia Krebs, Topeka, KS; Will Krebs, Boulder, CO; Jesse Krebs, Lawrence, KS; and David Krebs and his wife Jill Earles, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Services and visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Cochran Mortuary, 1411 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS.
