Arthur Turner

Funeral services for Arthur Turner, 63, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
Mr. Turner died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Vicksburg, Miss., the son of Henry Plug and Sceressa Wilson Turner.
Mr. Turner had been a loyal member of the Lawrence community for more than 40 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Kansas University. Mr. Turner was a firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department and, after retiring, he was a mediator for the state of Kansas. He was a member of the Ninth Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Cassandra Turner, Atlanta, Keziah Turner, of Virginia, and Ciara Turner, Bonner Springs; three sisters, Louise Turner, Topeka, Eliza Wiseman, Memphis, Tenn., and Bernice Davis, Hollandale, Miss.; two brothers, Aaron, Lawrence, and Willie, of Mississippi; a granddaughter, Maya Turner-Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
