Ralph I. Nesler Sr.

The funeral service for Ralph I. Nesler, 84, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Military honors will follow the service.
Mr. Nesler died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
He was born July 5, 1925, in Virginia, Minn., the son of Rudolph C. and Hazel A. Larson Nesler. He was a resident of Lawrence since 1990.
Mr. Nesler served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired as a sergeant major in 1973. He was a member of the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, Lawrence.
He taught Junior ROTC at Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo., for several years.
He married Lorraine A. Schacht on Nov. 8, 1947, in Rochester, Minn. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Ralph I. Jr. and wife Linda, Buckner, Mo.; two daughters, Linda L. Eckard and husband Stephen, St. Joseph, Mo., and Janice Nesler-Loux and husband Donald Loux, Lawrence; a sister, Marjorie A. Oeltjen, Rochester, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Linda Christian, Steven Nesler, Erin Maddox, Dane Eckard, Alex Eckard, Ronald Ellis III, Eric Loux and Brian Loux; four great-granddaughters; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman C., Rollie E. and Robert H.; and a sister, Mayme Bishop.
The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St.
