Carrol Gerstenberger

The funeral service for Carrol Gerstenberger, 89, Eudora, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eudora United Methodist Church, 2084 N. 1300 Road. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery.
Mr. Gerstenberger died on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Medicalodges in Eudora.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1920 in Eudora, the son of Carl C. and Viola Votaw Gerstenberger.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Gerstenberger was a retired farmer and stockman on the southwest side of Eudora. He retired in 1985 as the night supervisor in the City of Lawrence Garage. Previously, he had owned the Gerstenberger Farm Service, which spread lime and fertilizer on area fields from 1959 to 1985. He enjoyed working in his machine shop and was known as the “fix it man.” The Gerstenbergers left their farm in 2006 to move to a duplex adjacent to Medicalodges.
He was a member of the Eudora United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 42 in Eudora and the Douglas County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Wakarusa Watershed District and served on the Eudora Board of Education from 1964-1973.
He was married to Eva Belle Kindred on Feb. 14, 1939, in Ridgeway, Colo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, LaWanda Toler, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a sister, Violet Fleming, of Eudora; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sue Swoyer, a sister, Vera Rose Kanzig, and a granddaughter, Rosie Toler.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel.
