Jerry Lewis

Memorial services for Jerry Lewis, 78, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Plymouth Congregational Church.
Mr. Lewis died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, from complications due to cancer.
He was born July 28, 1931, in Salina, the son of George and Marguerite Pumphrey Lewis. He graduated from Salina High School in 1949.
Mr. Lewis earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Kansas University. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Lewis retired in July 2003 after 46 years of service at KU. Throughout his career, he was an associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, directed the Kansas Honors Program through the KU Alumni Association and was an assistant professor in the School of Business. He volunteered for Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen. He was also a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church.
He married Janice Lewis on Nov. 26, 1955, in Salina. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Jeff and wife Pam, Huntington Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Judy Lewis, Lawrence, and Jacqueline Kieffer and husband Jonathan, Lake Quivira; a grandson, Dustin Rogers; three granddaughters, Gabrielle, Sophie and Vivian Kieffer; two nieces, Debbie and Lisa Jo Sutherland; and a nephew, Toby Sutherland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edwin and Robert.
The family will receive friends at a reception in the Mayflower Room of the church following the service.
