George "Marlin" Redding 1927 - 2010 Longmont, Colo.
Funeral services for George “Marlin” Redding, 82, Longmont, Colo., will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Lawrence. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Redding died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at The Bridge Assisted Living in Longmont.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Burlington, the son of George B. and Elma Weiss Redding. He lived in Lawrence for many years before moving to Colorado.
Mr. Redding served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He farmed in Waverly before moving his family to Lawrence in 1954, where he worked for Farmland Industries for 33 years before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Redding was a member of the First Christian Church, the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Lawrence Region AACA, the Studebaker Drivers Club and Kaw Valley Chapter, and was a former member of the Masons. He enjoyed working on antique cars, woodworking, square dancing, playing cards, hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, camping, golfing and traveling.
He married Dorothy “Joan” Northcott on June 19, 1949, in Waverly. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Shannon Zuelke and husband Gary, and Marla Johnson and husband Rick, all of Longmont; four grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Steven Johnson, Sara Zuelke and Alex Zuelke; a great-grandson, Grant Johnson; and a sister, Gwenneth Toy and husband Eldon, Kansas City, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
