Dorris Elaine Lanksbury

Funeral service for Dorris Elaine Lanksbury, 90, Lawrence will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Mrs. Lanksbury died Friday, July 9, 2010, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1919, in Lawrence, the daughter of Jesse E. and Jessie Ethel Martin Markley. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence and attended Lawrence Business College.
She worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., from 1940 to 1946. She later worked at the Air Transport Command in Hawaii. She also worked for the Navy in Phoenix and at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto, where she retired from federal service as an executive secretary. She then worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Topeka and subsequently for Sears in Lawrence.
She was a member of the Lawrence Gem & Mineral Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
She married Robert C. Lanksbury on Nov. 9, 1946, in Honolulu. They later divorced.
Survivors include one son, Roger D. and wife, Vicky, Naperville, Ill.; three brothers George Markley, Jacob Markley and David Markley, all of Ottawa; one sister, Wilda Robbins, Lawrence; two grandsons, Christopher and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Kendra and Austin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Markley and one sister, Evelyn Musick.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
