George Baird Snyder

Overland Park — A memorial service for the Rev. George Baird Snyder, 96, Lawrence, will be at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Overland Park Place, 6555 W. 75th St., Overland Park.
The Rev. Snyder died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Brandon Woods Skilled Nursing Facility in Lawrence.
He was born May 16, 1913, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Ward K. and Margaret Baird Snyder. He graduated from high school in Spencer, Iowa.
The Rev. Snyder managed grocery stores for Council Oak and A&P in Iowa and Minnesota for most of his early adult life. At age 37, he went into ministry. He attended Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Kan., and attained his doctorate of divinity. He pastored numerous American Baptist churches in Kansas until retiring from full-time ministry in 1981.
He married Ottist “Leah” Bowman in January 1936. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jane Kunz, and a brother, Robert K.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan Willey, Lawrence; two sons George B. Jr., Lake Quivira, and Thomas W., Overland Park; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
