Meldon H. Laury 1919 - 2010 Ottawa

Paid family tribute

Meldon H. Laury, age 90, of Ottawa, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at her residence. She was born on January 29, 1919, the daughter of Oddis Flawn (O’Connor) and Thomas Wesley Henshaw. She married Dr. David Godfrey Laury on January 31, 1943, in Chicago, IL.
Moving to Ottawa in 1954, Meldon was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa. She was active in many other organizations including Entre Nous, Chapter GL PEO, Friends of the Library, Franklin County Historical Society, Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Women’s Educational Society of Ottawa University. As students, Meldon and her husband David were Mr. and Miss Ottawa University while in school. Meldon was also Homecoming Queen in 1940.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. David Godfrey Laury of Ottawa; son, Thomas D. Laury of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Annie Laury of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Krista Russell and her husband Shawn of Emporia, KS, David Christopher Elliott and his wife Stefani of Gardner, KS; great-grandchildren, Issac Russell, Sydney Williams and Issac Williams, all of Emporia, Hannah Lynn Elliott and Hudson Laury Elliott of Gardner, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pam; two brothers, Aubrey Henshaw and Paul Henshaw; and two sisters, Thelma Pett and Dorothy Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at 12:30 PM at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
