Clifford Laverne Evans Sr.

Graveside services for Clifford Laverne Evans Sr., 79, Overbrook, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Nick Woods officiating.
Mr. Evans died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Bourbon County, Kan., near Fort Scott, the eighth child of William Edward and Olive Mae Patterson Evans.
Mr. Evans worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant from 1956 until his retirement in 1996. While there, he developed a system to clean emissions without the company having to buy scrubbers.
He married Barbara June Withers on Aug. 12, 1949, in Oskaloosa. They divorced Jan. 7, 1997. He married Helen Marie Beerbower on April 14, 2001, in Rock Springs, Wyo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include seven sons, Richard and wife Alpha, Clifford Jr., Douglas Sr., Greg and wife Annette, Darryl, Dana and wife Sarah, and Robin and wife Patty; a daughter, Cheryl; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dawnita Brandon, and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Byerley.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Ind. The casket will remain closed.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.
