Marilyn Dabney Davis Benedict

Celebration of life services for Marilyn Joan Dabney Davis Benedict, 77, Lawrence, formerly of Bloomington, Ill., will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Community Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in McLean, Ill.
Mrs. Benedict died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
She was born March 20, 1932, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Robert and Evelyn Dabney. She graduated from Canton High School and was employed by International Harvester.
She loved to travel, visiting Ireland, Scotland, the Caribbean and Mexico. She was a member of the Ambassador Club of Canton’s Chamber of Commerce. She was the editor of the Canton Sentinel for 10 years and was the PR representative for Canton Bank. A lifetime million dollar seller, Marilyn worked for Weaver’s & Associates and Ray Root for a total of 25 years. She was an avid golfer, Wee Ma Tuc Club Champion with a 3 handicap, could drive a golf ball 292 yards and played at the St. Andrew’s course in Scotland. She loved dancing and being with great friends.
She entered LeRoy Manor in LeRoy, Ill., on Feb. 5, 2003, and was transferred in 2007 to Brandon Woods.
She married Roger V. Davis. They had two sons, Thomas and John. She married Charles H. “Chuck” Benedict on Aug. 10, 1985, in Bloomington, Ill. He survives.
Other survivors include her sons, Thomas Davis and wife Noreen, Springfield, Ill., and John A. Davis and wife Maureen, Bloomington, Ill.; grandsons Dylan, Connor and Owen Davis; sisters Donna Scholfield and husband Dick, and Sally Weiskopf, all of Springfield, Ill., and Linda Gaydos, Nevada City, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Cindy Barclay and husband the Rev. Jeff Barclay, Lawrence; her stepson, Charles Douglas Benedict and wife Magdalene, Phoenix; her stepgrandchildren, Sarah LaDuke, Noah Barclay, Micah Barclay, Joshua Barclay, Moriah Barclay, Bethany Barclay, and Ciana, Elena and Jason Benedict; and stepgreat-grandchildren Finley and Cohen LaDuke;.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dabney.
The family will greet friends a half hour prior to the service and following the service on Tuesday at the church.
