Darrel A. Smoots

Funeral services for Darrel A. “Pete” Smoots, 87, McLouth, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McLouth Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fall Creek Cemetery, Jarbalo.
Mr. Smoots died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in a farmhouse southwest of McLouth in Jefferson County, the son of Edward and Flossie Trackwell Smoots.
He attended Wild Horse country school and graduated from McLouth High School in 1939.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater at Hawaii and Eniwetok. After the war, he became a dairy and crop farmer near McLouth.
He married Ione Angell on Nov. 14, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include five sons, Mike, Pueblo, Colo., Rick and Tim, both of McLouth, Greg, Portland, Ore., and Dan, Emporia; a sister, Violet White, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie.
