Shirley Diana Hemming Rohrer

Memorial services for Shirley Diana Hemming Rohrer, 62, Raleigh, N.C., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Baldwin City.
Mrs. Rohrer died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Raleigh.
She was born June 25, 1947, in Lawrence, the daughter of Lyle and Daisy Hemming.
Mrs. Rohrer earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Kansas University in 1970. She returned to KU to earn a doctorate in microbiology and immunology in 1976.
She worked for both the University of South Alabama and the University of Mobile, where she was associate professor of biology beginning in 1992 until she suffered a stroke in 2008. She lived in West Mobile for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Rohrer was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She frequently attended plays at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and was a fan of Star Trek and Neil Diamond.
She was an active member of the Girl Scouts of America, both as a scout and later as a troop leader when her daughter joined.
Mrs. Rohrer was married twice. Her second husband was James Rohrer.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Sally Ravanos and husband Demetri; and a granddaughter, Anthea.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
