Henry Lewis Miller Sr. 1924 - 2010 Lawrence
Funeral services for Henry Lewis “Hank” Miller, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Miller died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of John Brodie and Alice Fletcher Miller.
Mr. Miller was a decorated World War II aviator, completing 50 missions over Europe and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
He worked for the Fleming Company in Topeka for 17 years, and later worked at Tanner Brothers Construction Co. in Phoenix, retiring after 15 years of service.
Mr. Miller spent his retirement near children and grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, dancing, playing bridge, and listening to country and western music.
He married Dottie Edwards. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Henry Jr. and wife Becky, Topeka, and Fletcher and wife Peggy, Wichita; five grandchildren, Daniel, Abby, Grant, Lauren and Jack; a sister-in-law, Susan Perkins Miller, Little Rock, Ark.; two nieces, Margaret and Carlton; and a nephew, David.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Fletcher.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, Lawrence, or the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
