Peter Munro Neely

A celebration of life for Peter Munro Neely, 82, Eudora, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Medicalodges Eudora.
Mr. Neely died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Medicalodges Eudora.
He was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Los Angeles, the son of Lester Guvay and Martha Belle Munro Neely.
Mr. Neely served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended the University of California-Los Angeles and received a doctorate in botanical science. During these years he was a founding member of the Southern California Grotto of the National Speleological Society, and was actively involved in the initial exploration of several wild caves in California and Nevada.
In 1962 he moved to Illinois where he taught biostatistics at the University of Chicago before joining the staff at Kansas University as an associate professor in 1968. He remained at KU until retirement in 1997.
He enjoyed rock climbing, scuba diving and ballroom dancing.
He married Yvonne Cousins on Oct. 24, 1986, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Hugh Munro and wife Francie, Leona Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Linnea Luker and husband John, Canoga Park, Calif.; three grandchildren, Greta Neely, Kyle Luker and Evan Luker; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Neely.
