Gladys Matilde Eggert

A funeral service for Gladys Matilde Eggert, 82, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Eggert died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at her home, after a long illness.
She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Maracaibo, Venezuela, the daughter of Oscar and Maria E. Rios Montero.
She worked as a bilingual secretary in Caracas, Venezuela, for Mobil Oil in the 1950s. She and her husband raised two children in Europe and Libya as they traveled with Mobil Oil before returning to Lawrence in 1967.
In Lawrence, Mrs. Eggert was active with the Small World Group, providing cultural support for visiting foreign students and their families, and the Lawrence Doll Club, where she was an avid collector of international dolls.
She was also active with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Landlords of Lawrence, exercise classes, French Club, Spanish Club and various community groups in the area.
She married Robert W. Eggert Sr. on Jan. 30, 1961, in Paris. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Robert W. Eggert Jr. and wife Amy, Houston; a daughter, Carolyn Eggert Pannier and husband Paul, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren, Robert III and Allison Eggert and Chris and Katie Pannier; three sisters, Emma Blind, Lexington, Ky., and Carlina Humphrey and Miriam Contreras, of the Miami area; and five brothers, Julio and Rey Montero, of the Miami area, and Gilberto, Luis and Jose Montero, Venezuela.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Oscar Montero.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before services Saturday at the funeral home.
