Carol Elaine Ahlert 1934 - 2010 Lawrence
Funeral services for Carol Elaine Ahlert, 75, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Ahlert died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at her home.
She was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Elmer and Louise Deahl. The family moved to Chicago, where she attended a two-room school. She graduated from eighth grade in 1948 and from Calumet High School in 1952. She graduated from Blackburn College in 1956 and taught first and second grades for a few years.
Mrs. Ahlert later returned to teaching and taught sixth grade for 15 years. She and her husband moved to Lawrence in the fall of 1991 from Ludington, Mich. They spent their working years in the Chicago area.
Mrs. Ahlert was a member of many groups at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church during the past 18 years. She was also involved in other service-oriented organizations in Lawrence and the Chicago area.
She married Donald Ahlert on June 28, 1958. He survives, of the home. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Other survivors include two daughters, Deborah Caffey, Lawrence, and Mary Ahlert, Palm City, Fla.; a son, Stephen Ahlert, Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Vetengl, Milwaukee; and a brother, David Deahl, Minooka, Ill.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Ahlert, in 2008.
The family will meet friends at a reception after the service.
The family suggests memorials to the oncology department at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church or Douglas County Hospice.
