Richard E. Barton 1938 - 2010 Lawrence
Memorial services for Richard E. “Dick” Barton, 71, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. March 5 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private inurnment will be at Walnut Valley Cemetery, El Dorado.
Mr. Barton died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at his home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Hutchinson, the son of Gene and Margaret Ulsfer Barton.
Mr. Barton graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Wichita, in 1955. Upon graduation he joined the Kansas Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as a senior master sergeant in the 184th Combat Support Squadron, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell AFB in Wichita.
After leaving the military service, he became a stockbroker with du Pont, Glore Forgan Inc. He worked in that capacity from 1968 to 1972, when he joined Pizza Hut Corporation. He served in various real estate capacities with both the parent company and the franchisees until his retirement in 1995. His last position was national director of property management.
He was a member and past president of Alvamar Country Club, and was a lifelong golfer.
Mr. Barton married Kathleen M. Stavely on Aug. 16, 1957. They had five children, and were divorced in 1977. He married Mildred M. “Millie” Fuller on July 30, 1982. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Douglas, Chicago, and David, Wichita; three daughters, Laura Cowperthwaite, Denver, Theresa Sapp, Dallas, and Buffy Barton-Davis, New York City; a stepdaughter, Carrie Taber, Lawrence; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his only brother, James.
