Donald F. Silkey

Topeka — Services for Donald F. Silkey, 83, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery, east of Perry.
Mr. Silkey died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at his home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Wyandotte County, the son of Carl and Hazel Coleman Silkey.
Mr. Silkey served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was employed by Lawrence Paper Co. from 1946 through 1963. He later became an insurance agent with Shelter Insurance for many years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of Lakeview Church of the Nazarene.
He married Phyllis H. Buerman on June 9, 1946, at North Lawrence Christian Church. She survives.
Other survivors include three children, Bruce and wife Sue, Lawrence, and Debbie Sayler and husband Mike, and Brett, all of Topeka; six grandchildren, Bruce Jr., Luke, Charley, Wesley, Angela and Chalen; five great-grandchildren, Whitney, Mallory, Katie Beth, Kari Ann and Jacob; two brothers, Ed and Werner, both of California; and a sister, Lil, California.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will meet them from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
