Elwin Dale Henry

Funeral services for Elwin “Pete” Dale Henry, 85, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Valley Brook Cemetery, Overbrook.
Mr. Henry died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.
He was born July 23, 1924, in Severy, the son of Wilford C. and Fern M. Shultz Henry.
He grew up in Severy, Phoenix, Michigan Valley and Centropolis. He graduated from Michigan Valley High School in 1941.
He was a Pomona High School board member and Ottawa Co-Op Association board member for six years, as well as a member of the Centropolis Christian Church.
He enjoyed farming, including his dairy and beef cattle herds, and building and repairing farm machinery. Upon retirement, one of his favorite hobbies was woodworking, making many items for his children and grandchildren as well as friends. He also made a pair of coffee tables for the Alpha of Clovia house at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
He married Martha Riley on July 22, 1956, in Garnett. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Terry and wife Mary Ann, of Baldwin City; three daughters, Sheri Beisner and husband Alan, of Alton, Sue Myers and husband Joe, of Meriden, and Lisa Kockler and husband Robert, of Lone Rock, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Joy Denning Angela Denning-Barnes, Catherine Welch, Mary Denning, Christy Richardson, Ely Johnson, Tiara Johnson, Jed Johnson, Seth Johnson, Ross Myers and Sam Myers; a great-grandchild, Eleanor; a nephew, Lynn Schoonover; and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lola Schoonover.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the Centropolis Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of Dengel and Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.
