Harry Wilfred Kreider

Services with military honors for Harry Wilfred Kreider, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.
Mr. Kreider died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Horton, the son of John and Rosa Armstrong Kreider. He graduated from Effingham High School.
Mr. Kreider served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. He worked for the Effingham Co-op as an electrician for 15 years. Mr. Kreider later worked as an electrician at Kansas University for 19 years, retiring in 1983. Prior to his military service, he taught electricity at Camp Crowder, Mo.
Mr. Kreider was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence and of Effingham. He enjoyed woodworking, weaving, camping and traveling to special lakes and fishing spots, and enjoyed following the Kansas University basketball team.
He married Virginia Schurman on May 30, 1939, in Horton. They shared 70 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Donna Smith, Kansas City, Mo., and Harriett Hamon and husband Gary, Lawrence; a brother, Richard, Horton; four grandchildren, Troy and Travis Hamon, Shannon Gotmer and Shawn Smith; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas; a sister, Irene Underwood; a daughter, Virginia Lee Kreider; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Hamon.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday before services at the church.
