Lyle H. Laughlin, 86, Topeka, formerly of Leawood, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at his Topeka home.
He was born June 4, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Leonard and Melissa Laughlin. He graduated from Liberty High School where he was involved in sports. He received a Bachelor or Arts degree from William Jewel College in 1948 followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1950.
The early part of Lyle’s career was spent with the Marley Cooling Tower Company of Mission, Kansas in various capacities, culminating as Vice President of Production. The latter years of Lyle’s career was spent with McNally Pittsburg, Inc of Pittsburg, Kansas as General Manager of the Kansas Division.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II aboard B-29s stationed on Tinian Island in the South Pacific.
Lyle married Jo Ann Carswell in 1952. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Bruce (Becky) Laughlin, Liberty, MO, Peter (Lea) Laughlin, Topeka, KS; daughter, Melissa Almquist, Tucson, AZ; sisters, Betty Major, Kansas City, MO, and Vera Greenlease, San Francisco, CA; sister-in-law, Bettianne Laughlin, Prairie Village, KS; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, William and Raymond Laughlin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lyle will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
