James Houston Clovis

Funeral services for James Houston Clovis, 78, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Clovis died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Medicalodges in Eudora.
He was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Salina, the son of Harry and Mary Hazel Agnew Clovis.
Mr. Clovis had lived in Lawrence for more than 50 years. He was a shift foreman for KP&L and retired in 1990.
Mr. Clovis was of the Methodist faith. He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post No. 852, Lawrence, and a life member of the American Legion Post No. 225 in Ozawkie. Mr. Clovis also belonged to Mount Oread Aerie No. 309, FOE, in Lawrence.
He married Marjorie Ann Peine on July 28, 1973, in Greeley. She preceded him in death Sept. 30, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.
Survivors include a brother, Raymond and wife Alice, Meridian, Idaho; and a sister, Mary Jean Debboli and husband Tony, Troy, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to VFW Alford-Clarke Post No. 852, Lawrence, or American Legion Post No. 225, Ozawkie, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
