Viola Carolyn Rolander Marino 1919 - 2010 Lawrence
Viola Carolyn Rolander Marino, 91, Lawrence, died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at her home. Viola was born July 7, 1919, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of John and Alida (Peterson) Rolander.
Viola married John Marino on September 2, 1943, in Columbus, Ga. They were married for 65 years and lived for 55 years in Salina, Kansas, where John managed the Salina Country Club. After his death in February 2009, she moved to Lawrence to be near her children. Viola was a homemaker and privately also composed lyrics and music for hundreds of songs. She enjoyed studying languages, particularly Latin.
In addition to her husband, Viola was preceded in death by one daughter Belle Marino, in 2007, and by her two brothers Lydon and Clarence, and sister Yolande. Survivors include five children, Carolyn Malone, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Rose Marino and husband David Hann, of Lawrence, John C. Marino, of Parsons, Lucille Marino of Lawrence, and Anthony Marino and wife Laura, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence 66044. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in the Olsburg Cemetery, Olsburg.
Friends may call Tuesday noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to service time where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time.
Memorials may be made to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or Lawrence Humane Society in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
