Stephanie Bess Culver 1947 - 2010 Perry
A celebration of life for Stephanie Culver, 63, Perry, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion in Perry.
Mrs. Culver died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, after a battle with cancer.
She was born March 6, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1965.
Mrs. Culver earned a degree in education from Washburn University in 1984. She spent 25 years as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Perry-Lecompton school district before retiring in 2009. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Culver coached track and one year of seventh-grade football (going 6-1). She sponsored yearbook and cheerleading, established the school’s Ronald McDonald project, and served on numerous district and statewide science committees. She was committed to helping prepare her students for the challenges of life. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her garden, feeding her birds and photography.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Bill Culver, Perry; two sons, Curt and wife Amy, Columbia, S.C., and Chuck and wife Stephanie, Shawnee; four grandsons, Ben, Ethan, Austin and Chase; two brothers, Steve Johnston and wife Beverly, Leawood, and Denny Dow and wife Janis, Overland Park; and a sister, Kathy and husband Danny, Murrieta, Calif.
