Oliver William George

Funeral services for Oliver William George, 86, of McLouth, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of McLouth. Burial will be at McLouth Cemetery.
Mr. George died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the Essex Hospice House in Tappahannock, Va.
He was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Leavenworth, the son of William Franklin and Susie Maude Williams George. Living in McLouth most of his life, he was a 1941 graduate of McLouth High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Williams-Kesinger Post No. 393 in McLouth. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Lyra Masonic Lodge No. 256, both of McLouth.
Mr. George worked at the Kansas Power & Light Lawrence Energy Center for more than 32 years, retiring as a mechanical maintenance foreman.
He married Shirley Jeanne Shoemaker on Oct. 7, 1950, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2000.
He was also preceded in death by one son, William Ray “Bill,” one brother, Milt, and two sisters, Betty Jean Botts and Nora Mae Laster.
Survivors include one daughter, Orpha Lynn Lindahl and husband Jim, Tappahannock, Va.; one brother, Walt, Independence, Mo.; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, an hour before services, at the church.
