Carey Anne McCormick

Carey Anne McCormick was born August 18, 1951, and departed this life July 29, 2010.
Carey’s passion was for art and teaching. She especially enjoyed teaching middle school students. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious.
Carey graduated from Lawrence High School in 1969. She received her BFA from the University of Kansas in 1974 and her BAEd in 1984. After a year at Troy, Kansas, Elementary School she moved to Wichita in 1988 where she began teaching art in the newly formed USD 259 Art Department. Subsequently she taught at Stanley, Franklin, Trusdell, Meade, Jackson, and Kensler Elementary Schools. In 1995, she acquired her MA in Art Education from Wichita State University. The family thanks all of her custodial-worker friends and her fellow teachers for their tremendous support.
Carey is survived by her mother, Lavon Martin of Chappell Hill, Texas, sister Donna McCormick and brother-in-law Greg Sims of Lawrence, Kansas, her favorite aunt, Kerma Bremerman and uncle Jack Bremerman of Minneapolis, Kansas, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. McCormick, and step-father Claude Martin.
Cremation arrangements were by Cornerstone of Wichita, Kansas. Per Carey’s wishes, there will be no services.
