Janet Belt Young

Graveside services for Janet Belt Young, 85, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Young died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Schenectady, N.Y, the daughter of Thomas Alva Edison Belt and Helen Marie Short Belt. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1943, and later earned a degree from Kansas University in 1947. She moved from New York to Lawrence in 1942.
Mrs. Belt was an accomplished equestrian, expert marksman, avid 5K and 10K runner, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Kansas Alumni Association, Alpha Omicron Pi, Douglas County Trailriders, Fort Leavenworth Fox Hunt, Douglas County Kennel Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
She married Edwin Stevens Young in August 1947 in Lawrence. He died in 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Meredith Marie Verhage and Patricia Thomasa Mayer, and a son, Charles Edwin Young.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Young, and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Cleopatra Slough and Anastasia Marie Slough, all of Lawrence.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
