Jacob Isaac Wessel

Funeral services for Jacob Isaac Wessel, 15, of rural Seneca, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha, with the Rev. Charlie Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Root Cemetery, in rural Seneca. Shelton Griffith, Gerard Enneking, Matt Stubbeman, Dakota Kunkle, Derek Gyhra and Andrew Todd will serve as casket bearers.
Jacob died Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home in rural Seneca.
He was born March 15, 1995, in Manhattan, the son of Mark Wessel and Karen Smart.
Jacob attended Seneca Grade School and graduated from the eighth grade at Nemaha Valley Junior High School. He was currently a freshman at Nemaha Valley High School.
Jacob was a member of the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. He enjoyed sports and had participated in football and track at Nemaha Valley. Jacob also played the tuba in the Nemaha Valley Band. He had played baseball at Kelly for several summers. Jacob also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked music, especially listening to The Doors with his mom.
Survivors include his father, Mark Wessel and wife Susan, of the home; his mother, Karen Smart and husband Dean, Lawrence; his grandmother, Maxine James, Topeka; his brother, Austin Wessel, of the home; two sisters, Amanda Wilson, of the home, and Ashley Wilburn and husband Joe, Wamego; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and innumerable friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Francis and Ellie Wessel, and maternal grandfather, Ralph Kunkle.
Friends may call all day Thursday at the Popkess Mortuary in Seneca, 814 Castle St., where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to the Jacob Wessel Memorial Fund, which will be determined at a later date.
